HCS Announces Availability of PIX Module for IPFQR Compliance
HCS is pleased to announce the official release of its Psychiatric Inpatient Experience (PIX) survey module, now available for all organizations using the HCS Behavioral Health EHR platform Compliance Toolkit. This new functionality is designed to help inpatient psychiatric facilities streamline compliance with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Inpatient Psychiatric Facility Quality Reporting (IPFQR) Program while capturing meaningful, actionable patient experience feedback.
The PIX Survey, developed by CMS, is a required patient experience measure with mandatory collection beginning in 2026. It assesses key aspects of the inpatient psychiatric stay. The survey evaluates four critical domains:
- Treatment team relationship
- Nursing Team Presence
- Treatment effectiveness
- Environment
Significantly, beginning with calendar year 2026, participating facilities must administer the survey to eligible patients, typically within 24 hours prior to discharge, following CMS methodology and strict requirements for anonymity and data handling.
- Failure to meet IPFQR reporting requirements triggers a 2% reduction to the Medicare annual payment update for inpatient psychiatric facilities
To simplify the PIX Survey process, HCS developed a fully embedded module within the framework of the EHR.
Key Capabilities of the HCS PIX Survey Module
- Structured, user-friendly workflow to collect PIX survey responses with triggers, To Do reminders, and role specific alerts
- Built in patient anonymity protections
- Secure storage of completed surveys for compliance and organizational tracking
- Interactive dashboards for trending and reviewing aggregated survey results over time
- Support for quality improvement initiatives, patient experience monitoring, and IPFQR participation
Enhancing Patient-Centered Care and IPFQR Readiness
As CMS continues to elevate expectations for transparency and patient experience measurement in inpatient psychiatric care, these organizations need tools that make compliance efficient and meaningful. Therefore, the HCS PIX Survey module supports facilities in meeting regulatory expectations while helping leaders understand patient perception, identify trends, and implement evidence based improvements.
