HCS RxAssistants can work with HCS MEDICS, or with any pharmacy information system, and provide an easy way to electronically manage everyday pharmacy clinical and management tasks. HCS RxAssistants for Clinicians provide hospital clinicians with tools to assist with the accurate dispensing and administration of medications as well as tracking Interventions, Medication Errors and Adverse Drug Interactions. Clinical Intervention Documentation
Clinical Intervention is an application for healthcare providers to document and categorize their clinical activities. The program keeps track of both “soft” and real dollars saved as a result of the staffs interventions. The amount of time spent on each intervention is also captured. Reporting on this data is quick and easy and custom reports can be built to meet specific needs.
Medication Error Assistant
Medication Error Assistant is an application designed to track medication errors and customer complaints. The errors can be assigned point values based on patient impact. Manager follow-up is required for each error and error trending can be identified to change systems that lead to med errors. Medication errors are categorized into four categories, Order Entry, Dispensing, Administration, and Therapeutic.
The system generates a report that lists all errors by category and quantifies each error to allow the department to focus on high frequency errors. In addition, the system reports medication errors by individual staff members. This can be used to ensure proper training of high risk staff members.
ADR/FDA MedWatch
ADR/FDA MedWatch is an application designed to track adverse drug reactions and device issues. Historical records are maintained as well as print out of the MedWatch form for submission to FDA.
Microbiology Assistant
Microbiology Assistant is an application that will interface between the laboratory microbiology system and the pharmacy system. As antibiotics are entered in the pharmacy system or culture and sensitivities are posted in the lab system, the program will analyze the data to ensure the patient is receiving an antibiotic to which the microorganism is sensitive. If there is a problem with the antibiotic choice, the program can generate an automated report or send an e-mail to alert the pharmacy staff of the problem so corrective action can be taken.
Pharmacokinetics Assistant
The Pharmacokinetics Assistant is a sophisticated drug dosing module that makes aminoglycoside dosing recommendations based on serum levels and the Sawchuk-Zaske one-compartment first order pharmacokinetic model. Dosing for other medications is also available for carbamazepine, digoxin, lithium, theophylline and aminophylline. The dosing recommendations of the pharmacist are printed in a concise consult format with all pertinent data listed with their dosing recommendations.
Neonatal Assistant
Neonatal Assistant is an order entry program for use in neonatal intensive care units. Rules based formulas specific to each facility perform specific analysis on each order. Dosing guidelines based on established literature and hospital guidelines. TPN Module includes calcium-phosphate solubility curve guidelines
IV Dose/Drip Calculator
IV Dose/Drip Calculator utilizes standard drips or custom formulations to provide compounding information plus calculating concentration in the formulation.
The clinician can then input the desired dose – Drip Calculator alerts if outside normal range and the system will calculate the flow rate. If dose is omitted, then a rate is calculated based on normal values and sheet printed for the patient.
Emergency Drug Dosing
Emergency Drug Dosing is designed to generate bedside quick reference sheets for critical situations. The program uses the patient’s height, weight and age is used to create a tailored Drug Dosing algorithm for each specific patient. Each dosing sheet is placed at the bedside and lists the commonly used emergency drugs with that patient’s specific doses readily available, negating the need to perform quick calculations in an emergency situation that might result in a critical medication error.
Dosing Calculator
This application provides simple tools to help in accurately calculating doses of tablets, liquids, & Infusions. It also provides for many types of common metric conversions.

A dosing protocol calculator for Solu-Medrol use in patients with spinal cord injury.
Herbal Assistant
This application helps in assessing herbal products being used by consumers.
Vaccination Assistant
Vaccination Assistant is an application designed to keep track of infant and children vaccinations and/or employee vaccinations. The program is ideal for clinics in that an automated daily report prints a list of families that need to bring their children in for a vaccination. A report can print a list of patients that have a vaccination due within the next 14 days. Families can be mailed or called to remind them of the due date. The program keeps track of the child’s birthday and all of their previous vaccinations so that the algorithm for due dates is always accurate. Vaccine lot numbers and expiration dates are tracked in the event of a vaccine recall, allowing quick access to a list of those patients who received the affected vaccine.
RxAssistants for Management IV/MED Work Flow Assistant
IV/MED Track is designed to assist the hospital with tracking medications in order to comply with JCAHO and USP 797 requirements. In addition it allows the tracking of preparation, dispensing, check and/or delivery of medications. It captures the person preparing, checking and delivering the medications and the time associated with each activity. It also captures the location when medications are delivered. The module requires that labels be printed with a barcode containing order number and sequence number when appropriate. Other fields may be tracked including patient ID but integration with pharmacy information system allows this to be retrieved.
Narcotic Assistant
The Narcotic Assistant© is a software program designed to track dispensing records for controlled substances and maintain a perpetual inventory. The software is able to track each inventory item at the dispensing unit level. The program will track medications at the patient care unit level until the medications are accounted for either by patient charge or return to pharmacy. The program is also able to generate reports detailing all controlled substance medication receipts and dispensations for auditing purposes. It will create an audit trail that will meet all legal requirements for controlled substance dispensation, inventory control, and receipt.
Cooperation from the vendor for Automated Dispensing Machines (ADM) is required to complete any interfacing with those sites that utilize said technologies. With feeds from the ADM, reconciling between pharmacy and dispensing machine can be reconciled.
Nursing Unit Inspection Assistant
The Unit Inspection Assistant is designed to assist the department with performing and documenting Unit Inspections, as required by various regulatory agencies. The application generates Unit Specific check sheets for the Pharmacist to use during the routine inspection of the various units assigned. Once completed, the data is entered into the database for long term storage and reporting purposes.
The inspection criteria are totally customizable, allowing each institution to tailor the application to their specific needs. The system also allows for initial and follow-up inspections to document that corrective action has been taken if a deficiency was noted on the initial inspection.
Medication Tray Assistant
The Tray Assistant© is a simple application that can be used to track any type of kits or trays used in the health care environment. These include OR Trays, Crash Cart Trays, L&D Trays, Anesthesia Trays, etc. All tray types and their individual contents are completely user defined. Not only does the software maintain a real-time inventory of these kits and trays, but it also tracks expiration dates of each kit or tray to ensure the inventory does not contain any expired medications or equipment
Operating Room Assistant
The OR Assistant© is an inventory management system for use in the operating room satellite pharmacy. The program assists the pharmacist in tracking controlled substance dispensation and monitoring of controlled substances. The program can create a billing report for patient charges or be interfaced with the billing software.
Repack Assistant
The Repack Assistant© is an easy to use program that enables institutional hospitals to meet legal requirements for take home medications for hospital outpatients. Outpatient Clinics and Emergency Rooms typically send the patient home with a starter prescription, to tie the patient over until they can have a prescription filled at their local pharmacy. The Repack Assistant© program tracks lot numbers and expiration dates. If a manufacturer recalls a medication, a report can be generated which lists all dispensations of a certain lot number for easy retrieval of recalled medications.
Rx Sample Assistant
Sample Assistant is designed to manage medication samples for hospitals or doctors offices. The program can generate patient labels for the samples and track lot numbers in case of a sample recall. Expiration date checking can be performed via reports so that expired samples can be removed from inventory. Drug usage trends can be evaluated over time using the report menu.
Out of Date Assistant
Out of Date Assistant is utilized to track out of date medications that have been quarantined and then print out reports by manufacturers and track until appropriate credits are received.
Borrow/Loan Assistant
Borrow/Loan Assistant is an easy to use program that tracks medications borrowed from or loaned to other hospitals or pharmacies. Reports are available on demand to submit to facilities for adjustments.
Employee Assistant
The Employee Assistant is designed to manage the employees within the Pharmacy department. It includes routine data, such as, name, address, employee work area, position control information, college, etc. It also allows the tracking of things such as TB Testing and Licensing/Certification Renewals.
This application also includes an Educational tracking component designed to document any and all educational programs provided by or attended by departmental staff. This documentation is a requirement for The Joint Commission. This application makes the documentation and reporting of these requirements extremely easy!
