Q: Is it true that PACS is very expensive to own? A: HCS PACS is designed to run without any IT intervention. System services, monitoring and disaster recovery are all included with HMS PACS. Q: What type of images will be archived electronically? A: All images can be archived electronically with the exception of the following: Mammography Images that are on film All images from non-DICOM 3 compliant modalities Q: How is the film archive impacted by the PACS system? A: You will not need to archive film from DICOM compliant modalities. The exception, only images from non-DCOM compliant modalities will now need to be in the film archive. If required, images from the film archive and non-DICOM compliant images can be digitized into the PACS. Q: How do I get a hard copy of an electronic Image? A: The PACS system will have the ability to print to a DICOM printer or burn images to a CD/ROM with viewer. Q: We currently send selected studies to an off site reading group. How will this be done with PACS? A: The PACS system will act as a broker and can be programmed to route out images using DICOM Send protocol. You will need to contact your off site group to get the send to requirements. Also, the modality service Tech will need to be notified to assist with any changes to the modality. Q: How will medical staff review images in a film less environment? A: The medical staff can view images via a Web viewer on the hospital LAN. In addition the hospital can have designate work stations to view images. Q: How will the radiologist read images? A: The radiologist will read electronic images on monitors that meet ACR guidelines for electronic digital images. This station allows the radiologist to manipulate image with the tools provided on the workstation Q: What is Modality Work List? A: Modality Work List allows patient information to be uploaded to the modality from the HIS/RIS interface. This information will include the patient name, DOB, MR number, accession number and study to be performed. Note the modality most be work list enabled to receive work list from the PACS RIS Broker.
